Happening: Superbet Group’s new tech hub

Tech hub

Superbet Group has rebranded its tech companies and departments as Happening, an international tech division with offices in Bucharest, Zagreb, and London. Superbet’s select tech departments have merged with Croatian tech companies Axilis and Superology and Belgian online entertainment company Napoleon Sports & Casino. They now operate as a single venture with over 500 employees in Bucharest (Romania), Zagreb (Croatia), and London (UK).

Most of Happening’s staff, nearly 400 people, is based in Zagreb, the rest being headquartered in Bucharest, Romania, and London, the UK. The team consists mainly of young engineers and includes seniors who built their careers at global tech giants such as Amazon, Google, Adobe, and Meta.

Axilis, which makes up more than half of Happening's work base, was founded in 2011 as a software solutions agency by engineer and entrepreneur Bruno Kovačić. After its acquisition by the Superbet Group in 2019, it pivoted to deep-end platform and tool development for the Romanian betting and gaming company. Superology, which started in 2012 as a live score app start-up by Ivan Klarić and Ivan Lulić, was acquired in 2017 by Superbet and focused exclusively on developing its mobile app. Napoleon Sports & Casino, one of Belgium’s most recognisable betting and gaming brands, was acquired by Superbet Group in 2021.

Bruno Kovacic

Bruno Kovačić, Managing Director at Happening and CTO at Superbet, said: "The Superbet Group has excellent engineers, and we wanted to reach our full potential by addressing organisational dispersion. Even though we're still in our developmental phase, and we're working on Happening's full integration, we're growing as a company in terms of talent, products, and technology.”

Happening: Superbet Group’s new tech hub

Happening is now positioning itself as a key player in IT, with ambitions towards growth, development, and further investments. This is particularly important in the context of current upheavals in the tech market on a global scale. Since October 2022, Happening has employed
87 people; by the end of 2023, that number should reach 120.

Undoubtedly, these results are a consequence of the ambition that IT experts have towards working on a competitive product that ensures career growth and skill development. Benefits such as a generous education budget of up to 2500 euros, a flexible work schedule, and an open vacation policy only enhance the experience. "We have a unique combination of company size and problem complexity," points out Kovačić. "Working for Happening is a rare opportunity for an individual to work on a high-scale system within a relatively small team and make an impact.”
